About the 2012 Architects’ Home Tour

The purpose of the Architect’s Home Tour is to raise awareness of the role of an architect in the design of a home. This year’s Home Tour features five homes designed by AIA architects past and present. Three of the homes are designed by and have been lived in by the same architects and their families since they were built. One was designed to meet the specific criteria of its current owners, and one was designed for one family years ago, and happily meets the needs of another family today.

Each home is in a unique neighborhood. This is your chance to visit Fallbrook to experience the new urban environment that includes businesses, institutions, schools, recreation centers and a new town center. If you enter the Pershing neighborhood off South 20th Street, check the plaque on the stone entry marker and read about the airfield that used to be in this area. Piedmont is a higher-end neighborhood developed on the eastern fringe of Lincoln in the 1930’s and known for its many unique and custom designed homes encompassing many embellished architectural styles on large-sized lots. The neighborhood south of UNL East Campus includes “Professor’s Row” whose design standards impact home in the area. The developer of South 88th Street divided this 16-acre rural tract of ground into eight, two-acre lots, each of which was intended to contain an architect-designed home for a selected family.

Tour will be held regardless of weather conditions.
