Our goal was to take the Westwood Park Sign precedent and reduce or distill the architecture one step further, with the hope of finding its most essential visual form. By abstracting these three elements - dark base material, recessed font, and yellow paint - we have attempted to create an abstract summary of the humble and quotidian qualities of park signage. Rather than relaying a highly specific message, the sign simply becomes a universally recognizable graphic that could be reproduced at various scales depending on site and place.
Jury Comments: The selection of material and form, and the scale calibration of both, provides a subtle and elemental solution that is reinforced by quiet detailing. The materials are resourceful and relate well to their context.
