The design for the Multifaith Sanctuary transforms an existing conference room within an historical campus building into a spiritual destination where students and faculty from all faiths can gather for worship. In order to address all faiths, the design of a Multifaith Sanctuary must convey universal spiritual attitudes while refraining from overt references to specific religions and traditions. In addition, the design of this particular space required great flexibility - both in its ability to accommodate different users and activities and, as it is sited in an existing historic space, the ability to be removed without alteration to the existing space.

Jury Comments: The character of the room is expressed through simple wood pieces creatively assembled. We like the discipline of using a single material, module and geometry. It creates an interesting space that plays with light in a mysterious, changing way.
