ENTRY  2525 House

LOCATION  Lincoln, NE

OWNER  Withheld by Owner

FIRM  Sinclair Hille Architects

The project presents an infill housing strategy that celebrates rather than eliminates difference, utilizing a bold, yet carefully reserved design as a means to suggest alternate possibilities within an historic Lincoln neighborhood. The proportions of the house respond to adjacent structures, and the horizontal cedar rainscreen corresponds to the horizontal wood siding of neighboring homes. However, the simple rectangular form and flat roof of the house stand in contrast to the faceted geometries and pitched roofs throughout the neighborhood. Furthermore, the individual cedar battens of the rainscreen are spaced at varying intervals across the façade, resulting in shifting levels of opacity that allow the rainscreen to function as both privacy screen and solar shade.

Jury Comments: We like the simplicity of the volume, the role of the double height space and the development of the key stair. Simple components brought together into an straight forward but subtly varied skin.
