UNBUILT / HONOR

Entry Name: I2NL Fellowship Residences
Firm: HDR Architecture, Inc.
Owner: International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory
Photographer: HDR Architecture, Inc.

Located on the southern perimeter of the I2NL campus, the housing units will be surrounded by a reclaimed native meadow and restored wetlands along the Joao Paulo Canal that defines the southern edge of the site. The units are sited to act as a transition between the campus and a residential development just opposite the tree line along the canal. The location also allows those Fellows with an automobile the ability to use a private drive from the residential neighborhood, separating them from the main campus traffic. The walks and trails through the meadow connect the residences to the campus.

Jury Comments: This project considers many influences from site, to space, to construction, to the day-to-day experience of students in order to develop a very powerful design statement.
