Formally an abandoned amusement park, this infill site is Located in Braga, Portugal - 33 miles (54.7 km) northeast of Porto. The new campus for the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory is a joint venture between the Science Ministries of Spain and Portugal. “The Gateway Building” (a.k.a. Administration Building) is to function as a central point of the campus community, while also providing a secured campus entry and a strong identity for visiting and prospective research scientists.

Jury Comments: Technology is so seamlessly integrated into this project that it never distracts from its mission as a campus focal point. Rarely is a building designed to be transformed on so many levels throughout a day or even a year.
