What does Nebraska’s new energy code mean for building enclosures?

Nebraska Code Updates

Beginning August 1st, 2024, the Nebraska State Electrical Division adopted the NFPA 70 National Electric Code 2023. Note: The Nebraska State Electrical Division sets the NEC for the entire state, local cities can’t amend up or down.

Beginning August 1st, 2024, the City of Grand Island, NE is on the 2021 IBC, IRC, IEBC, UPC, UMC, IFC, and 2023 NEC (see above). There are several local amendments, see https://www.grand-island.com/departments/community-development/building-services for details.

Bellevue is also on the 2021 ICC series and 2018 IECC .

Gretna (Omaha suburb) is on the 2021 ICC (IBC, IRC, IMC, IPC, IFFC, IEBC) except 2018 IECC, 2009 accessibility code, 2018 swimming pool & spa code

Kearney, NE is on the 2021 IRC, IBC, IEBC, IPMC, UPC, 2018 IECC, 2010 ADA standards, 2017 ICC A117.1

Note: No Nebraska cities have updated to the 2021 IECC. Everyone else is still on the 2018 ICC series and 2018 IECC, although most cities (like both Omaha & Lincoln) have amended the 2018 IECC.

Attached is a summary of a few articles on the changes made in the 2021 ICC codes from the 2018 ICC codes
