UNBUILT | HONOREntry Name: Principal Riverwalk Pavilion & Pump Station Construction is underway for a pair of public buildings on a prominent site along the Des Moines River. Both are part of the new Principal Riverwalk. The north building is a 2,200 sq. ft. café pavilion. The south building is a pump station. It is nearly identical in size to the pavilion, but with a skin that remains closed – containing pumps, generators, and other mechanical paraphernalia with no public access. The building employs a number of sustainable and energy conservation strategies including geothermal heating and cooling, daylight harvesting, and LED lighting. As a result, the operating and life-cycle costs are significantly reduced. |
