With an owner-selected site located in a deep depression surrounded by suburban context, the project was conceived, designed and constructed in less than seven months. The irregularly shaped site with steeply sloping banks is located below a heavily-trafficked intersection. Passing vehicles and potential shoppers are provided a view of the store’s products through the use of elevated light monitors that double as display elements. During the day, the glazed forms provide natural light to the sales floor, while at night they act as a landmark for the area.
