PEOPLE'S CHOICEARCHITECTUREEntry Name: 1980 House A large family wanted their home to expand and contract as their family changed. They also desired connection between the house and a reconstructed prairie. Our response considered the site as a “loose” container requiring a subtle overlay of structure derived from views and solar orientation. Links to the site are achieved visually, through materials, and by using organized native plantings that will eventually impose their own patterning. Interior and exterior materials reflect the rawness of the prairie and will age like the farm buildings and implements nearby. Locally sourced walnut is used to unify the composition and contrasts with blackened steel, stone, stucco, and recycled glass tile. |
