Located within a rehabilitated tire shop, this project defines itself as a unique and aesthetically pleasing dining experience. Barrios Fine Mexican Dishes utilizes unique textures and materials define different programmatic zones of the project and pair together successfully to create a pleasing dining environment. A custom wood hostess stand acts as a design feature upon entry into the restaurant and is adjacent to new interior planters, hinting towards the spectacular courtyard that is an extension of the dining experience. Existing wood material from the old tire racks were applied as an interior finish, and custom metal fabrication was utilized to create specific design pieces for firewood storage, and the bar front.
Jury Notes: This project introduces a wonderful continuity of geometric two-dimensional patterning and 3 dimensional focal points from material to accessories. The new program elements provide for a very cohesive and unique dining environment inside and out.
