The studio had been searching for affordable downtown space with the flexibility to support both their traditional office practice with desk space for designing, drafting and modeling via computer, but also a workshop space where they could fabricate physical details and mock-ups for projects. This underutilized raw and industrial loading and maintenance space served as a perfect backdrop for the studio’s modern, hand-made intervention.
Jury Notes: An effective work space that celebrates the act of design. This project shows a real commitment and an inventive adaptive re use of a small-scale project with limited budget. The new and thoughtfully crafted intervention weds a sense of rural vernacular within its raw space.
