Overlooking 300 acres outside Gretna, NE, Modern Farmhouse is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Nebraska farmhouse. The house combines modern amenities with materials and interactions that allude to the agrarian vernacular of the site. The house is comprised of three main buildings: the primary residence, which is an elongated rectangular structure draped with a skin of weathered wood; the bedroom wing, which draws from the language of traditional pole-barns and corn cribs; and, the five-car garage, which is a timber structure clad in corrugated metal. Just as its pastoral counterparts have stood the test of time, Modern Farmhouse employs materials and forms that are designed not just to weather the decades, but to do so with a graceful timelessness.
