EMERGING ARCHITECTS UNBUILT | MERIT

ENTRY  St. Joseph’s Catholic Church

AIA MEMBERS  Joshua D. Puppe, Associate AIA and David R. Alcala, AIAS

The church is strengthened through the employment of light, material logic and the concept of ascension through architecture. These goals are achieved by designing spaces around light such as the main chapel, and others around darkness, such as the private chapel to reflect the program of the room through the atmosphere created.

Jury Comments: Very poetic imagery supported by a strong concept. This project is a well-choreographed study of uses and moods and suggests possibilities for the investigation of the 21st Century church in a new way.
