Station was originally commissioned by the design collective Emerging Terrain for a unique one day dining event. The event called on designers, chefs, artists, and architects to work together to cultivate a conversation about food and material culture. Station was designed and constructed as a platform and shelter to showcase and facilitate the social, communal, and creative aspects of cooking, serving, and consuming food. Expressing elegant simplicity, bespoke materiality, and pragmatic construction methods, the pavilion directly references the agricultural heritage and history of self-sufficiency found throughout the Midwest.
Jury Comments: Simple materials, nice detailing and clean execution for a temporary structure. The detailing of connections between vertical and horizontal elements is particularly well done. The jury loved the civic program and felt that this installation did much to elevate the public experience and appreciation for design.
