The Holland Performing Arts Center building in Omaha, NE, is situated on a double-block along two major thoroughfares and a beautifully landscaped urban park. It lacked an engaging and revenue-producing ground floor amenity space that could support the pre- and post-function activities requisite to a world class concert hall experience. The solution was to activate the street level with the addition of a 2,700 SF wine bar and lounge that injects a fresh heartbeat to the building and surrounding downtown area. The result – the new Ovations Lounge – is a dynamic space offering opportunities to engage various types of patron groups, from clients seeking a quick place to perch for a short stay or a more relaxed gathering space for larger groups of friends.
Jury Comments: A minimally defined space that achieves an understated elegance with formal and material restraint and careful use of color. The design enhances the lobby and facade – this is a place to sit and be seen.
