NEW CONSTRUCTION / MERIT Entry Name: North Omaha Readiness Center (NORC) In a post 9-11 environment, The Nebraska National Guard required their new training facility be equipped with force protection mechanism to control terrorism. A cast in place concrete barrier wall is used to protect the armory from possible attack. The force protection wall cantilevers out and folds in to become a seating element. Sunscreen and steel structure cast shadows on the concrete and vertical surface. Jury Comments: This building proves that the requirement for high levels of security does not preclude the ability to create good architecture. |
