NEW CONSTRUCTION / HONOREntry Name: Union Pacific Childcare, Omaha, Nebraska The space is intended to care for the children of the Union Pacific employees. The design is based off the idea of a railroad station with the barrel corridor. A large custom mural within the corridor represents the company employees and values. The Center is tailored to children with window box rooms and a stepped down entrance that eliminates some of the massive feel. Jury Comments: A barrel roof defines the simple scale of the overall childcare facility, while the eccentrically placed interior volume allows the creation of kids' activity spaces along the circulation. The mural of the Union Pacific employees links children and their families in this train station allusion. |
