Demand for practitioner researchers is growing steadily despite the fact that relatively few architects are well trained in conducting research. The good news is that incorporating the conduct of research into a design practice is a fairly straightforward step for practitioners to take, and firms can begin enjoying the fruits of such an initiative soon after its launch. Some design firms have introduced directors of research, hired to bring to those practices the highly desirable skills of research design and management. Other firms have started research agendas using current staff and carefully conceived research strategies. Although the use of research in design firms is increasing, it is becoming clear that findings from previous research efforts are not always sufficient to address current design issues. Consequently the demand for creating customized design research agendas for clients is surging, and the firms that can respond effectively to that demand will be positioned for leadership in this rapidly growing field. This seminar will introduce strategies that will enable you to quickly begin conducting research in your practice.
