The River’s Edge development in Council Bluffs flanks the Missouri River and is centered around parks, bike and walking trails, art, and events. For the River’s Edge building within the development, we embraced this unique condition and allowed the natural elements of the surroundings to move through the site, elevating the architecture above the ground plane. Its façade reflects the structural repetition and clean, modern materiality of bridge structures. Terraces and a green wall extend the natural elements into and up the building façade, further engaging the building with its surroundings.

Jury Notes: This unbuilt project stands out because of the form, composition and variety of exterior glass skins. This project, as rendered, is successful as architecture as well as urban design, creating lively urban spaces and a strong connection between the building and the river. If built, this will no doubt be a very positive addition to Council Bluffs.
