EXCELLENCE IN UNBUILT ARCHITECTURE | MERIT

PROJECT NAME  Modular Hospital (MOHO)

PROJECT LOCATION  Western Africa

FIRM  Dewberry Architects Inc.

The project goal is to provide affordable “patient-ready” healthcare facilities that adopt the principles of meeting local and community healthcare needs while emphasizing sustainable best-practices, with a focus on natural resources conservation strategies and maintainability. In creating a new model for healthcare it was required to be adaptable to various health needs and sites throughout Africa

Jury Notes: The jurors praised the thinking behind this project – Healthcare that would be a delight to experience. Here is an example of extremely thoughtful planning and sustainable strategies using a modular kit of parts. One could imagine the actual built product, comprised of local labor and material would yield a delightful crudeness and handmade feel – enhancing the user experience.
