Station was originally commissioned by the design collective Emerging Terrain for a unique one day dining event. Fisher and Conzett utilized the commission to design and fabricate the structure, engaging in a true design-build process. The event called on designers, chefs, artists, and architects to work together to cultivate a conversation about food and material culture. Station was designed and constructed as a platform and shelter to showcase and facilitate the social, communal, and creative aspects of cooking, serving, and consuming food. The structure makes use of a custom steel and wood connection to support a cantilevered canopy that provides shade throughout the day. The pavilion’s material palette was arrived at through a series of material investigation inspired by the chef’s actions of gathering, manipulating, and re-presenting individual food ingredients as a cohesive whole.
