CITATION

INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE

Entry Name: Fogscape | Cloudscape
Firm: Min | Day
Owner: Metropolitan Home Magazine
Photographer: Bruce Damonte, San Francisco

Asked to design a “Jack & Jill” bedroom with bathroom connector in a large San Francisco home we began with the notion of a dream-like landscape. The suite is a play on conventional ideas of children’s and guest rooms. The architects call the rooms Fogscape and Cloudscape in reference to the fog that rolls into San Francisco, transforming the city. The southern room serves as a bedroom and a workroom with the Fog Wall, a cabinet that encloses a desk and a Murphy bed. The Fog Wall is the product of a custom computational script that controls the patterning and digital fabrication of the piece. The northern room is a studio and a place for daydreaming. This room also features the Stones Table, a modular piece designed by the architects for the project.

Jury Comments: The project is a complete thought expressed in color and exploring digital fabrication – no element would be as successful without the others. And it's fun!
